My Mom is a Grad!
I had my daughter in June of 2018. My situation wasn’t the best, so my friend who was already taking advantage of Family Scholar’s House’s programs and services recommended them to me. I don’t have a lot of family in Louisville, and the family I do have, have so much on their plate that they cannot offer much assistance. I am a single mother and I knew when I was pregnant with my child that I would be doing this alone. Once I got into the program everything changed for me. Shortly after orientation and completing my workshops I moved into Family Scholar House. A place we could call home, and a place I was able to focus solely on my education and our future.
Family Scholar House has impacted my daughter and I in a very positive way. There were times I faced many struggles, but my advocates were there for me. During the holidays and my daughter’s birthday they were able to make the load lighter for me & give to my child which made her so happy and made it possible for me to enjoy these times more and stress much less. The resources the FSH program offers really helped during our hard times. The FSH staff were especially helpful when I found out my daughter was diagnosed with Autism. Things started to really change in my life, but I had so much praise and support that motivated me to keep going. I am very thankful for all of my advocates and what the Family Scholar House has provided. It has truly been a blessing.
Even with all of the trials and tribulations, I am a college graduate! I graduated this May with my Associates in Arts and plan to attend nursing school in the fall. I have already been accepted into the nursing program, I have completed my CNA courses, and will shortly be taking my State Board Test to be officially CNA certified! I am so thankful for all of the love and support I have received from FSH and look forward to the opportunities to give back to the community that helped get me where I am today. My daughter and I wouldn’t be where we are without the love and support we received from an organization that believed in us.
