Family Scholar House has a long history of serving residents of Southern Indiana and collaborating with Ivy Tech Community College. Currently, FSH services are offered on Ivy Tech’s Sellersburg campus, and we will soon be opening a residential campus that will house 36 student parents. Stay tuned for more updates.

Family Scholar House is always looking for dedicated volunteers. Your assistance gives participants the support they need to pursue higher education and enter the workforce.
Volunteer activities can include:
• Host a donation drive (current needs include: pantry essentials, diapers/pull-ups, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and/or school supplies)
• Write encouraging notes to our adult scholars
• Record videos for our families (i.e. bedtime stories, share your favorite recipe, get moving videos for our adults and kids)
• Landscape Projects at one of our 5 Louisville-area campuses (weather permitting)
• Special opportunities that arise, like this Friday, April 25 from noon - 5:00 helping us refresh Linda’s Closet at Downtown Scholar House, 920 South First Street in Louisville, by sorting, organizing, and displaying new donations to continue our boutique-like shopping experience for participants. Tasks include unpacking and donating items, folding and hanging clothing, arranging accessories, and restocking shelves.

On Saturday, April 19, a number of Family Scholar House participants’ children were invited to the Fillies Children’s Tea, an annual event presented by The Fillies, Inc., that gives children the chance to enjoy a Derby event of their own.
Themed “Spring Eggstravaganza,” activities included a Spring Scavenger Hunt, Egg Coloring, Face Painting and more. Following activities, the children enjoyed a formal tea party, including a buffet lunch, tea/lemonade, small cupcake, music, an opportunity to walk the red carpet and door prizes.
Each child also received a gift bag and a keepsake photo with the Kentucky Derby Festival Princesses to take home to remember their magical afternoon.
