Education and Goals
Quitting school wasn’t an option for me. I was determined to finish my education and prove I would not be a statistic. When I found out I was pregnant I was confused and worried; how would I juggle school, work, and being a parent? That is when I found Family Scholar House. FSH has been an important part of my family’s journey that helped ensure I would be able to finish school and provide for my son. De’Auntay watches every move I make and from the moment he was born, I knew I had to set an example for him and be a woman he would be proud of. Over the course of his life he has watched me graduate and in a few weeks he will witness my graduation for a second time. I talk with him often about the importance of school and working hard to reach your goals.
I am often told that De’Auntay doesn’t meet strangers. He has the biggest smile and an even bigger heart. I can’t wait to see all the things he accomplishes in his life and I feel grateful that I get to be his mom.
Being a part of Family Scholar House you know that you always have someone in your corner. Being a single parent doesn’t mean you have to stop pursuing your dreams and education and Family Scholar House makes sure you know that. Family Scholar House motivated me to accomplish all of my goals, anytime I needed someone they were there!
I graduated from Jefferson County Technical college in 2019 with my Associates in Arts and is now graduating from the University of Louisville with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology. After graduating I plan to buy my “forever home” so that De’Auntay and I can have a safe and stable space. I have a passion for children and hope to work with them in behavioral health, because I believe, at the end of the day, our future starts with our children.
