National Service Recognition Day
In honor of National Service Recognition Day, I want to reflect on my time at Family Scholar House as an AmeriCorps VISTA. My experience the past nine months has been invaluable. I have learned so much about my community, the needs of the most marginalized groups in our society, and myself. For someone who wants to have a career in policymaking, this experience will be so important for my future because it has helped me have a better understanding of how policies directly affect people. No amount of policy research could replace the knowledge I have gained through my experience. I think my experience as a national service member has been particularly unique because Family Scholar House has five campuses around the community, which means that the group of people I serve is very diverse. Family Scholar House has been a great place to serve because the range of experiences I’ve had is unmatched. I am so fortunate to be part of the Family Scholar House family, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve our amazing participants!
