Back-to-school season is upon us. Regardless of if you have school-age children, you can feel the city abuzz with the prospects of new teachers, new lessons, and new sneakers. This blog highlights what the back-to-school season looks like for a student parent.

We, at Family Scholar House, love to spotlight our participants both past and present. This blog is not only a spotlight but an interview with a current participant, Patricia. We cover her overall experience in the program, advice for others, her future goals and aspirations, and her special accomplishments.

A tale of two speed networking events. One is from the perspective of a GE appliance employee, Courtney Nichols, who helped plan a "Tea and Conversations" with the Black Excellence ERG for Juneteenth. The other is from Dania Britt's perspective, a participant and employee at Family Scholar House who participated in the Yum Speed Networking in April.

A spotlight on a few of this year's graduates.

Abby is a senior at Jefferson County Public School graduating this Spring who would like to be a doctor. She wants to be an anesthesiologist or surgeon. She previously served as Vice President of the Black Student Union. She has an extended basketball, track, & soccer career. Dee, her mom, is enrolled in the accelerated nursing program at Bellarmine University. This poem was inspired after an interview with Abby about what she admires about her mom.

In late March, Family Scholar House in collaboration with Community Financial Services Bank, (cfsbky.com) expanded MyKY.info web-based app and kiosks to serve residents in counties of Marshall, Graves, and McCracken. A fourth county, Calloway County, will have a kiosk available in late spring or early summer when the construction of the new Calloway County library is complete. It was a big deal for me to partner with CFSB and unveil the kiosks in the Purchase Area.
